Bright Minds is a loving and nurturing Children's Center that offers a Learn through Play Preschool Program. Bright Minds is located inside of Newton Elementary and offers a preschool enriched morning and afternoon program.

THEME FOR THIS WEEK: FALL SEASON (October 17 - 21 2011)
Monday and Tuesday (Falls / Leaves)
Learning Circle - Discuss with children about fall, how the weather changes, and the type of clothes we wear, the fruit of the season and more on fall. Introduce the story of “Fall Leaves Fall!”
Discovery - Take the children outdoors and do a Nature Hunt. Explain how leaves change color in the fall by showing them green colored leaves and yellow/orange colored leaves. Discuss the focus of the hunt (ex. color, texture, size)
Creative Art - Leaf Color Rubbings. Use several different leaves and MANY colors. Place a leaf on the table and cover it with the thin paper. Take a crayon and rub the paper. Do this with several leaves.
Theme Based Game - Sorting and Ordering of collected autumn leaves.
Wednesday and Thursday (Apples):
Learning Circle - Show the children different kinds of apples. Take note of its colors, shapes and sizes. Talk about whether the apples would taste the same. Tell the story of “Never Say Can’t to an Ant” (Felt Board Story)
Discovery - Oxidation of an Apple. Cut the apple into sections. Dip a section of an apple into lemon juice and put it on a plate. Put the remaining section of the apple on another plate. Observe what happens to each plate of apples.
Creative Art - Apple Painting. Cut apples in half through the widest part, from side to side. Place them in individual pans of red, yellow and green paint. The apples can be then placed on a paper creating different colors of apple prints.
Theme Based Game - Pass the Apple. Play just like Hot Potato. The children pass the apple until the music stops. Whoever is holding it when the music stops is sent to the apple patch (center of the circle).
Friday (Harvest / Scarecrows):
Learning Circle - Show the children a picture if a scarecrow. Play “Scarecrow Riddles” that would enhance children’s skills in problem solving and riddles.
Discovery - Explain that scarecrows helps farmers at harvest time by protecting crops from birds and other scavengers.
Creative Art - Hanging Scarecrows. Give each child a paper bag. Stuff it with crumpled newspaper and close each bag with a twist tie or a piece of yarn. Cut eyes, nose and mouth shapes and glue it on the paper. Add yarn for hair. Let it to dry till the scarecrows are ready to hang.
Theme Based Game - Do the “Dressing a Scarecrow” felt board game that would enhance child’s creativity.
